๐ŸŽฏ Public Speaking Tip: Do THIS Gesture FIRST When Greeting a Group

Kelowna public speaking coach Shawn Byfield
Kelowna public speaking coach Shawn Byfield teaches how to confidently use your voice in front of others

What To Do BEFORE Speaking? Do This Body Language Gesture

1๏ธโƒฃ When welcoming a group, the very first gesture you make is OPEN YOUR ARMS WIDE. Bend your elbows slightly, like you’re hugging a panda. ๐Ÿผ

2๏ธโƒฃ Stand tall, shoulders back, chest up like Superman or Wonder Woman.

3๏ธโƒฃ Gesture first, THEN greet them with your words.

Why do THIS? On a subconscious level:

๐ŸŽฏ This arm gesture tells your audience (whomever they may be) that you’re open, friendly, and happy to be here!

๐ŸŽฏ In their mind, it’s also like you’re hugging them. Hugs feel good, right? Well their opinion of YOU is associated with that good feeling.

๐ŸŽฏ Also, by not hiding your body, you show you’re a confident person right away.

๐ŸŽฏ DEEPER PSYCHOLOGY: Some people fear opening their arms wide because, our primitive brain tells us doing so can make us vulnerable.

๐ŸŽฏ When YOU open arms wide, you’re showing no fear. You embrace all that comes your way.

Try this simple gesture the next time you’re in a group, giving a presentation, at team meetings, or on a stage!

So much value in one motion. This can be the difference of people liking and trusting you, or zoning out and walking away.

Now you know! ๐ŸŒˆ

๐Ÿ”ฅ This ONE Action Of Successful Dancers Will Improve Your Game At Your Next Competition

Attention Dance Parents:

๐Ÿ”ฅ This will almost certainly make or break your dancers’ experience as a high-performing competitor…

Because there’s one action ALL successful dancers, performers and artists do before getting on stage that the unsuccessful don’t…

Dance Judge Shawn Byfield's Pre-Comp Masterclass is for competitive dancers, teachers and parents
Shawn Byfield’s Pre-Comp Masterclass for competitive dancers, teachers and parents

Here’s A Quick Story

๐ŸŽฏ Here’s a quick story and lesson:

I was Adam Sandler’s private movement coach for the movie PIXELS. ๐ŸŽฎ Worked with him on set for a few days.

One day in his trailer I’m teaching him how to do the moonwalk. He asks:

“Shawn, what do you think? Am I ready?” To which I replied:

“You’re better, but no… You’re not there yet.” ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

Here’s The Lesson

๐ŸŽฏ LESSON: The one action all successful performers do is get pro advice BEFORE a performance.

โœ… Whether it’s singing a song before an award show, filming a scene in a movie, or in your case- dancing on stage at competition.

โœ… The performers we admire understand the importance of getting professional insight BEFORE showtime.

โœ… As I said before, this can make or break your experience as a competitive dancer. If you don’t want to be one of the 99% of dancers who fail, grab a spot at my LIVE Pre-Comp Masterclass this Saturday.

I’ll share unconventional wisdom you can apply immediately! It’s online. Watch from your cellphone, just like what you’re doing right now.

Here’s what you gotta do:

The 2 Types of Interference Dancers Put On Themselves

Shawn Byfield Dance Intensive coming aoon

Here’s todays DEEP THOUGHT ๐Ÿค”

Sometimes, just like football, we let interference stop the play. โ›” What’s “Interference” you ask? Read on…

Interference in football is a penalty ๐Ÿšฉ when an opposing player illegally blocks you from catching the football. ๐Ÿคผโ€โ™‚๏ธ Like when a player pulls your jersey, grabs your helmet, or trips you on purpose.

Does This Happen To You?

Sometimes, we create our OWN interference. Yup, we block our own pass. ๐Ÿ˜”

And then we wonder why we’re not getting the touchdown we wanted? ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿพโ€โ™‚๏ธ It’s because we’re getting in our own way!

There’s 2๏ธโƒฃ forms of interference we create ourselves:

โŽ One is mental interference, things we tell ourselves.

โŽ The other is physical interference, stuff like our phones, TV, and other distractions.

Byfield Dance Intensive Helps You Get The Touchdown

A summer dance intensive you won’t want to miss

๐Ÿ—“๏ธ On August 5th, 6th and 7th, I’m running BYFIELD DANCE INTENSIVE. One of the conversations will be HOW to stop getting in our own way. HOW to stop creating our own interference that prevents us from dancing at our fullest, and living our best life. โค๏ธ

I have three (3) full and immersive days of dance, growth and inspiration waiting for you! Only in Kelowna, British Columbia.

If you’re a loving dance parent, or a teen competitive dancer and this resonates with you, check out this summer dance intensive. Join us!

FACTS: Your LENS Determines How You See The World

Shawn Byfield Motivational Monday

MOTIVATIONAL MONDAY

Just like a photographer, we all see the world differently based on the LENS we choose.
โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €
Let’s keep this simple:

๐Ÿ”Ž How YOU see things isn’t always how someone else sees things, simply because you don’t have the same lens.

๐Ÿ”Ž Sometimes, we’re STUCK seeing things one way. Because we only have one lens in our arsenal in which to see the world.

๐Ÿ”Ž And sometimes, that lens gets dirty! Because of what we watch, what we read, and who we spend time with.โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €
โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €
If you’re looking for a way to change how to see things, I’d suggest intentionally looking for what’s right, what’s good, and what’s possible in the world.
โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €
It’s not easy. And it’s not the only way. But it’s a start!
โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €
It’s true: When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.

How Do You Make Things Work Out? Here’s The Answer You Didn’t Expect…

STOP!
Read that again. โ˜โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €
โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €
There’s absolutely no doubt this was a tough, challenging year for myself personally. I’m certain it’s been a challenge for you also.

BUT!

There have been so many wonderful highlights in this year. Like new blessings, renewed opportunities I had or didn’t make time for, and a much needed PAUSE to reflect on other things I unconsciously and unintentionally take for granted.โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €
โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €
Plus- my “Pivotability” has improved 10 fold! โ™ป๏ธ

If 2020 taught me anything, it can be simply summed up in one word… โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €
…RESILIENCE. โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €
โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €
They say when the going gets tough, the _____ ____ _____. Even when it sucks. Even when it seems impossible to win.

2020 threw (and landed) some surprising punches. They hit HARD. If you’re feeling bruised, battered, confused, and dizzy with uncertainty, so am I. But I choose to keep fighting, and going for all 10 rounds.โ €
โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €
Put your dukes up! โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €
โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €
Because the ONLY way 2020 wins is if we quit! It won’t win without a fight. SO DON’T QUIT! Let’s whoop ass the rest of this year.
