Ancient Sensei Wisdom That Will Help You Crush This Year Like A Ricecake

Happy New Year! Sending you the most positive energy you can handle this new year.

Come, let’s sit. Remove your shoes grasshopper. Have some tea.

Slow your breath. Fill your lungs. Focus on only the words on this page.

Now. Let’s reflect on the many positive experiences that you enjoyed last year. Start this year appreciating the friends you’ve made, and raise your tea to the wisdom you learned. You are truly blessed.

For that, you should smile.

And with the good comes the not so good. Reflect also on the disappointments you had to overcome, and any obstacles you’ve conquered. We ALL face roadblocks and walls in our path. Everything is about balance, that’s just a part of life.

Raise your tea. Because for that, you should also smile.

“A master is not one who does not fall down;
A master is simply one who gets up quickly.”

You will be knocked down. We all fall down. That’s part of the Good Fight.

But persistent, positive people always choose to trek forward. Because of that determination, we manage to find the right detour.

So remind yourself to:

  • Celebrate your successes
  • Learn from your lessons
  • Accept the Yin AND the Yang
  • Embrace the good WITH the bad because we need both

You should be proud of yourself. Despite everything you went through last year, you’re STILL here.

Whoosh! Faster Than A Speeding Bullet (Train)

Isn’t it amazing how quickly a year can fly?

So much happens in 365 days. Many great memories, some not so great. And some entire days you can’t remember at all!

That’s just how the sushi rolls.

Guaranteed, the world will continue turning. Streams will continue to flow. You are never defeated, because tomorrow you’ll have another spectacular day of adventure waiting for you.

ZEN QUESTIONS EVERY WARRIOR MUST ASK ONESELF:

Are you happy with how things turned out last year? Are you content with your lessons? Are you eager to continue walking your current path?

Or…

Do you seek a new path this year? Do you secretly desire something to change? Do you wish to learn something new? To work somewhere different? Do LIVE and BE MORE?

Contrary to what some people around you may say, you don’t have to settle and accept where you are. You can do whatever you want. If you want to change something, then you don’t need their permission to change it.

Ancient wisdom states:

“Expect the best, then detach from the outcome”

When you do this, you put your best vibes out into the Universe and set yourself up for success. Whatever it is you desire, start with trusting yourself. But know that whatever you put out there may not fully make it back to you when you expect it.

And, give yourself permission to trust in your own instincts.

“I Know Kung-Fu…”

Isn’t it amazing how time flies?

They say patience is a virtue. It’s true. You don’t get a black belt in Kung-Fu in a week. Or a month. It takes years to learn the katas slowly, step by step. You gotta fight for it.

Just like Neo in The Matrix, sometimes you must slow things down and assess your immediate situation. Take time to study.

Remember how he skillfully dodged bullets on that rooftop? They were coming at him at lightning speed, weren’t they… So what did he do?

He chose to slow his world down to do some fancy evasive maneuvers.

You can too.

Sometimes that choice is hard. Sometimes making a choice that can improve your life is a scary fight. But what’s waiting for you on the other side could be life-changing.

Arm yourself to fight for what you truly want this year. In true Sensei style, here’s some powerful kung-fu techniques you can actually use immediately:

4 Hands Free Kung-Fu Master Moves That Once Perfected, Will Help You Dominate This Year Like You’ve Never Done Before

Jackie Chan

1) Be honest with where you are now, and envision where you want to be in the next 12 months

Think big, don’t be wimpy. It takes no more energy to think BIG than it does to think small, so give yourself a fighting chance!

Break down your vision into chunks: What do you need to do monthly? Weekly? Daily? Write it out, then put it somewhere you can see and be reminded of it daily. I’ll be doing more of this and I highly suggest you do the same.

2) Work your ass off the SMART way, to make it work out

I do mean work. And I do mean SMART. Because reality is: whatever you want WON’T happen overnight. If you’re looking for something remarkable to come your way, you need to clear a path. And most of us have a lot of sh*t blocking the way…

…so you’ll need to put consistent sweat and effort, over a long period of time to make a path for your desires to present themselves. One year will come and pass just like the last one did. Will you let the days pass you by?

3) Be willing to give something up

The word is called… SACRIFICE. Gasp! Most times, whatever it is you want- to learn something new, start your own business, have more family time, travel and explore, or have more YOU time- takes some sort of sacrifice. I don’t know what that is for you. But I do know this:

Your mother sacrificed 9 months of her life to bring you into this world. Are you willing to sacrifice at least 9 months to bring YOUR desires and changes to life? I suggest you get off Candy Crush, stop partying like you’re on tour with Aerosmith every weekend and invest those extra hours into something productive. Because you will never regret something that you put your ALL into.

4) ASK for help. ASK for assistance. Just ask

This could potentially be one of the most important tips to help you grow and succeed in your new year. Go out and find the people that have the expertise you need, and ASK THEM for their advice. Because as they say, “If you don’t ask, you…”

And… Stop being a chicken. Pick up the phone. Send them and email. Attend their event and speak with them after. Quit making excuses for why you “can’t” ask for help. There are good people in this world who want to help you! But you must ask. Whether you pay for the right service, hire a seasoned consultant or team up with a respected business leader- find the RIGHT person qualified to give help.

SENSEI SAYS: Your friends and family most times WILL NOT be the right people to ask. Seek those who have experienced what you want.

Friends and family want to keep you safe. But… if you want the ripest fruit, you must climb up the tree.

There you have it. Use these skills to your advantage, but only use these techniques for GOOD. Remember, Neo knew when to ask for help. Will you go and do the same?

And never, ever stop believing in what YOUR heart speaks to you. You’re unique for a reason. Listen to YOUR inner wisdom

Share that with everyone you encounter this year and the next. Leave your mark!

The Absolute Best Way To Get The Best Advice

The Absolute Best Way To Get The Best Advice

Be as coachable as the Chicago Bulls in '98

I’m FRIGGIN EXCITED!

These 4 basketball legends above are the perfect example of why I’m excited. I’m sure you’ve seen them before, but I’ll get to them in a bit…

Tonight, I’m learning life success & biz tips from two multimillionaires. In person. One was a 3X World Series Champion and played with Toronto Blue Jays. Not too shabby.

Who cares, right?

Wrong. Here’s why you should care:

NEWSFLASH: To Make The NBA Finals, Kick Doug Off Your Team

I’m willing to be 100% coachable, I’m open to opportunities, and I’m seeking out wisdom and training from those who already have the success I want. I suggest you do the same.

What I’m talking about worked for Ron Harper, Dennis Rodman, Scottie Pippen and Michael Jordan… Heard of them?

For example, if you want to learn how to play professional basketball, seek out and learn from a coach who’s students consistently make it to the NBA finals. Not from your “uncle Doug” who hasn’t played in 17 years, but “watches” a lot of SportsNet so “he can teach you…”

…ahh, NO, he can’t. At least not to the level of success YOU want.

The best way to get the best advice is to find a top coach. Like Phil Jackson, who coached the boys on the Chicago Bulls in ’98 (and won six championships under his watch.)

Seek a wise mentor.

Learn from a seasoned teacher.

Be as diligent as those organizations dedicated to finding people anywhere on this planet. Pinpoint exactly who you’re looking for. Seek out a reputable, respected, knowledgeable leader that has REAL ability to teach you what you want to learn, and is serious about taking YOU to the next level.

And find someone who inspires you!

I know that because I truly want what’s best for those around me, for my family, students, and for everyone I’ll meet in the future, I have to improve personally in many areas. That only happens when you seek out the pros. Not your friends and family… PROFESSIONAL EXPERTS.

Poppin’ Champagne With Yo’ Homies…

Sure, your friends & family will always give their “opinion.” But ask yourself: Do they really KNOW what’s best for you? Have they truthfully achieved the success you’re looking for? And do THEY even want to see you succeed?

It’s important to always love your friends, you’ll want their support. And you’ll most likely want them around when it’s time to pop open that champagne!

Now I’m thirsty. =)

Anyway. To achieve a high level of success, in ANY field, learn from the leaders who can teach you based on their solid experience and track record.

That’s my Ninja advice for the day. Share with your friends and share your comments, I really read ’em! Share the love,

Why You Should Kick Your Excuses To The Curb

WOW. Some people! Ok, I need to vent.

But what’s with the bra, you ask? I’ll tell you more about that later… Here’s what’s on my mind:

I really, truly, strongly dislike when people say can’t. Especially when I teach. You know, when people look me in the eye and say

“I can’t do this, I can’t do that…” I’m sure you know the type:

1.) The ones who simply don’t try. 2.) The few who admit defeat without even lifting a finger to see if they could. 3.) The ones who, when you’re giving your all, trying your absolute best and making an attempt at greatness, they continue to be the grey storm clouds filled with thunder and lightning, come to ruin a beautiful, sun-filled afternoon in the tropics.

Coincidentally, male or female, they all seem to own the same birth certificate because they share the exact same name:

“Debbie Downer”

Show Me To The Closest Urinal

And Debbie loves company. I call them energy suckers.

Anytime I meet an energy sucker in dance class, or waiting for the delayed streetcar, or buying cereal in aisle 3, (or any other place that humans congregate) I have the sudden urge to bolt like an Olympic sprinter to the men’s room because Grumpy Gary, Lazy Larry & Negative Nancy PISS me off.

Yeah, I said it.

STOP and listen Debbie. Listen real good, because this message is for you. I need to tell you something maybe you haven’t heard before: YES, you can.

Damnit Debbie! I said YES YOU CAN!

Sure, maybe not today. Or maybe not even this week. There’s no magic button you can push that will miraculously boost your confidence in 3 minutes or less, like one of those frozen TV dinners.

But if you try, practice, and STOP making excuses for your lack of effort you’ll see that eventually, in time, you CAN.

Let’s say your slightly-above-minimum-wage-too-much-black-tea-drinking-always-in-your-personal-space employer were to say to you: “Downer! I want you to try this” and you reply with “No dude, I can’t” without any real effort… regardless of how you feel about him or her you’d eventually get fired. Kicked to the curb.

So why fire yourself without trying? Don’t do it Debbster.

And while I’m at it…

Lose The Bra! (Or The BRO, As Kramer Would Have It)

Here’s a tip:

Change your attitude to challenges and you’ll achieve success quicker. Here’s how…

Shift your mindset when something “different” presents itself. Learn to embrace a little change. Don’t be afraid. Say to  yourself “Ok, let’s see what happens when I try this…” You might surprise yourself!

Throughout history the leaders, shows, businesses, artists, books and technologies that made an effort to try, think and embrace something different became the most successful. Tell yourself you CAN do it. Your mind will believe you.

So drop the excuses Double D, and throw out the negative support like a bad department store brassiere. (It never looked good on you anyway.) Burn that bad attitude! Judo-kick the self-defeating, self-doubting crap to the curb and start trying. Make an effort. Be optimistic.

And you’ll eventually see that yes, you can, Can, CAN!

DOCUMENTED PROOF: Dancing Helps Build Confidence

BDX dancers in Toronto hip hop class

BDX dancers in Toronto hip hop class

Here’s DOUCMENTED PROOF that a dance lesson helps to build confidence.

Not just women, but men also experience the esteem-boosting satisfaction a dance class brings. Not many other activities give you the freedom and openness to pose spontaneously!

Remember when we were young and fearless? We would do things and say things without inhibitions. Those were the days!

But then something changed… As we grew, we became more and more sensitive to how other people would perceive us. We developed a safety bubble to avoid ridicule and rejection. We stopped being bold, started being safe, and lost some of our confidence.

Take a look at the photos. As you can see, the power of dance allows you to recapture your strong, inner child.

From now on, know inside yourself there’s no need to hold back. Starting today, embrace your confidence. Let it out, and just pose!
