This Is The Congratulations That High School Graduates Need To Hear

Motivational public speaker in Canada Shawn Byfield

Nowadays, high school is TOUGH. Times HAVE changed.

Every year I see stressed, discouraged, uninspired students who have a lot to deal with. A lot of it surrounds home life balance and support structures. Students have non-school stuff going on that they rarely tell others about- family issues, relationships, mental health, relocations, and more.

Many times you’re forced into adulthood sooner than expected.  You could have chosen to pack up and quit, but you didn’t. You saw it through.

High school is our first major LIFE exam, and the best news is… you passed! What you learned in the last few years of high school will significantly influence the person you’ll become tomorrow. YOU can, and will make a difference. Congratulations! And WELL DONE.

WOW… Here’s Why ASKHOLES Drive Me Nuts!

askhole Funny, but not funny post. One of the most frustrating people I meet: ASKHOLES.

“Someone who continually asks for advice and does nothing with it”

If you didn’t know this about me already:

I LOVE helping you. I really do.

I know I’m a wired encourager and my purpose is to help others achieve their higher potential. It’s embedded deep in my dna to support anyone trying to make a positive difference on a personal, family, community or global level. I’ll always be on your side, rooting for you to win! However…

…I can only encourage, challenge and cheer you on so much.

I discovered askholes a long time ago, and unfortunately, they still live among us. These people have to be willing to accept advice, stop asking more questions, stop looking for more motivation, stop reading more quotes, stop making excuses and actually IMPLEMENT the steps, strategies, feedback and advice given.

It drives me nuts when someone repeatedly asks what I think they should do, then they go do something else. Why did you waste my time? More importantly, why did you waste yours?

Round And Round They Go

hamsterwheel

It’s like being on a hamster wheel.

Those cute pets* will run and run and run, thinking they’re getting ahead. In reality, even though the wheel goes round and round they’re actually in the same physical place. (*Hairy rodents? Mice with fur?)

Sometimes, askholes don’t even realize their destructive habit. They have to get off the hamster wheel of seeking advice with little intention of implementing, and start DOING.

Read what Darren Hardy has to say about Askholes here.

If you know you’re struggling with this, help is out there. Know that I love you, but I refuse to support your habit! And if you’re not, know that it’s NOT YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to do the work for the askholes around you.

Share this with all the askholes in your life and let’s all grow together,

Impatient? READ THIS… How Does This Popular Movie Quote Relate To Your Current Life?

So in my world, so much can change in 8 hours! Here’s a real-TIME story unfolding right now:

Two hours ago I was at home in my underwear. Now, I’m lying down comfortably in my honeywagon, after a major movie production sent a driver to pick me up and bring me to set. Yup, I’ve been requested.

UPDATE: I was Adam Sandler’s movement coach for this movie:

How The Heck Did I Get Here? (And Other Random Ramblings)

If you want it, you have to PREPARE for it. I’m constantly striving to become the person I am capable of being. Working hard is NOT the same as working smart. Understand the difference, then do both! Sometimes that means late nights or earlier mornings. Many times it requires doing something that makes you uncomfortable.

Everything you want in life is just outside your comfort zone.

Listen. Whatever you want you’re not going to get right away. I’ve worked diligently for years to build a reputation of being an expert in my field. So now, sometimes unexpectedly, I land a gig and appear on set literally hours later. Pretty cool sh*t. 🙂

There’s a popular saying in the movie biz:

“I’ll get you, my pretty, and your little dog, too!”

That’s a good one, no? Damn witches…

But the one I’m referring to is actually “Hurry Up And Wait.” It’s important to notice how that directly relates to our personal growth as well. Invest in yourself NOW. Work hard NOW…

…Then be patient. You might not see instant success but you will reap the benefits in the future.

Wait for it. It’s coming!

Are You Selfish? Here’s The Best Way To Use It For Others

image

Let’s face it… It’s actually NOT about you.

Zig Ziglar said it best: come from a place of service. Put other people’s wants needs and desires first. When you help enough people get what they want, you’ll in turn be rewarded with what you want.

Wow! Rocket science!

I’ve always loved this principle, and work hard to encourage or inspire others around me. But don’t get me wrong. You might relate to me on this one…

Yup, Totally Selfish

image

It’s true- we all have wants and needs and we all need help to achieve our goals. I have giant dreams. Pretty sure you do also. As humans, we’re totally selfish by nature. It’s a survival thing, and that’s OK.

BUT! The life altering difference is realizing this: People genuinely WANT to help others that genuinely care about them. Consider this fact: Helping others is embedded in the deepest fibers of our being. I support you, you support me. And the cycle continues.

Isn’t that the way it should be?

“Yeah, But I Feel Bad For Asking…”

Don’t worry… There’s nothing wrong in wanting something. There’s nothing wrong in having desires. And there’s NOTHING WRONG with somebody wanting something from YOU.

The question to ask yourself is this: Will your exchange be a mutual beneficial one? Or is one of you being greedy or self indulgent at the others expense?

Listen… Healthy tribes and communities are not grown through individual greed.

It’s not about you! Its actually about “we.” How can WE help each other? That’s how healthy communities thrived for thousands of years. Everyone had something unique to offer. They in turn relied on the services and asked help of others to prosper provide for their family.

image

So let me ask you… How have you shown interest in others lately? How have you tried to help THEM? And how can you aid, help or simply encourage just one more person today?

Here’s your chance to find ways to nurture, help and encourage others. You’ll find a reward waiting for you!

Have an inspired week,
– Shawn B

If You Struggle To Find Motivation Today, My Back Injury May Help You…

Image

DON’T take your gifts for granted! If you decided 2013 you would exercise/dance more, and you haven’t yet, guess what?

That can all change in the blink of an eye. It kills me to see…

…people take their abilities for granted. I created a safe place where friends can keep fit, throw down and release stress. I bust my butt every single day to encourage YOU to take class, get inspired, and surround yourself with positivity because that’s the best way to live!

But now, that’s changed…

…I was fine one minute, then instantly lost mobility the next. All I want to do is dance again! Teaching isn’t possible for a while, this sucks. I’m having a hard time encouraging YOU because honestly, I’m too busy thinking about ME.

Open Your Eyes! Look Around You…

So. Some of you need to wake up:

There are people in this world who would give EVERYTHING to have your health, your legs, your opportunities, or even just a CHOICE to improve and make life better. You are blessed and fortunate to have a choice.

Right now, injury has taken away my choice until I fully recover. As Mos Def says:

“Tomorrow may never come… for you and me, life is not promised.”

My blunt message to you is to STOP making excuses in your life and effing TRY something. If you don’t like it or it’s not for you, that’s OK! Just TRY. You DON’T know what will happen tomorrow.

As always, I share because I care. And Thank You for those of you who reached out, I appreciate your thoughts and energy.
