Canadian Tap Dancer Wins GOLD MEDAL At Dance World Cup

15 Year Old Tap Dances Circles Around World’s Best, Wins Top Prize At “Olympics Of Dance”

TORONTO, ON – When it comes to dancing, Canadians have the tap bug. Dance student  Lara Renaud wins the top medal for her tap dance solo at this year’s Dance World Cup, held this July in Whistler, BC.

“It’s an incredible accomplishment to win at this event,” says dance expert Shawn Byfield (www.ShawnByfield.com) who’s taught tap dance in Canada for over 25 years. “Countries from around the world send their top students, to compete for the gold medal. It’s just like the Olympics, but for dance.”

Byfield, who is Renaud’s Toronto tap dance teacher, says it’s not easy being a champion. Many dedicated hours, lots of sweat, early mornings, and exhausted feet discourage dancers from reaching this kind of success. But because of Renaud’s love and passion for dance, the work doesn’t dissuade her.

“She’s such a motivated dancer and always rises to a challenge. I’m so very proud of her!”

Over 8,000 dancers globally have competed at Dance World Cup. Dance World Cup is recognized by the International Dance Council, and celebrated its 10th anniversary season at Fairmont Château Whistler Resort.

“When I got off stage, many people and dancers came to say how amazing it was!” shares Lara, excited about her Gold medal win for her tap dance solo. “There were dancers from USA, Mexico, India, China, Russia, Romania, Poland, Gambia, and all Canadian Provinces and Territories.”

Ever wonder about this confusing science stuff?

I hear ya.

In the award-winning show i Think i Can, the class science teacher Miss McColl (hilariously played by Melody Johnson) energizes her students with her passion for physics and discovery and challenges them to win First Prize at this year’s Science Fair.

But what the heck IS a black hole? What does photosynthesis even mean? And who really cares about electromagnetic energy anyway? A quick Wikipedia summary:

  1. BLACK HOLES: A black hole is a region of space from which nothing, not even light, can escape.“Hyperbolic orbits following an inverse-square gravitational force field…”
  2. PHOTOSYNTHESIS: A process that converts carbon dioxide into organic compounds, especially sugars, using the energy from sunlight. The process plants use to grow from sunlight.
  3. ELECTROMAGNETIC COILS: is formed when a conductor (usually an insulated solid copper wire) is wound around a core or form to create an inductor or electromagnet.

“Science, Science, SCIENCE! And today in SCIENCE, we’ll study the laws of motion. Oh, the laws of motion are my favourite notion…” – Miriam McColl

Now get to science class. And if you can’t get to class, go watch i Think i Can and see how we TAP into E=mc2!

The Complete Guide To Finding The Perfect Woman At Recess

Ahh yes. The mystery of Woman. Hear her roar.

Us mortal men have asked the same pressing questions for centuries: What does she want? What does she mean? Why is she: [doing this] [saying that] [acting weird] [eating so much] [not eating anything] with me?

My futile attempt to search for the answers may humour most women. Apparently they humour easily when us men (they actually refer to us as “boys”) – try to come up with the right answer*

* MAN NOTE: When she gives you a multiple choice question, always choose “Secret Option C.”

Example: She asks “Do you think my friend Stacy is attractive?” Loaded question, right? Your response choices:

A) Umm, yes (leading her to think various things, resulting in her calling you a pig for liking her friends)

B) Umm, no (leading her to think various things, resulting in her calling you insensitive for not liking her friends)

SECRET OPTION C) Because the correct answer doesn’t exist.

You’ll NEVER fully figure them out during recess. Or lunch, or after school for that matter. But if you’re a man seeking truth and wisdom into the minds and hearts of the superior species, let this guide help:

  1. BE NICE. Help her out. If she misplaces her baton or loses her glasses, pick them up and offer assistance.
  2. BE FUNNY. If you have a knack for jokes, make her laugh. Every Frufie likes a guy with a sense of humor. If you suck at jokes, skip this one. Because she’ll be laughing AT you, not with you.
  3. BE SUPPORTIVE. Encourage her when she’s scared and you’ll win her heart every time.
  4. BE SMART. You don’t need to know every answer to Jeopardy. But learn a thing or two about Science. Because it’s all about chemistry.
  5. BE PLAYFUL. Stop being so serious all the time and let loose. Show you have a youthful side. Play games like “Hot Potato” and “Stella Ella Olla” with the others and you might get the “awwww” card.
  6. BE A MAN. There’s a time for sensitivity. And there’s a time to stand tall. So every now and then show off your masculine prowess and swing on the monkey bars. They like that.

There are more secret techniques. But put these few to work immediately at recess and you’ll find your perfect mate. I think… Please tweet me at @ShawnByfield with your feedback. Good luck!
