CTV’s So You Think You Can Dance Canada Embarks on Five-City Audition Tour This Spring
Canada, do you think you can dance? Prove it! CTV announced today that So You Think You Can Dance Canada, an all-new Canadian version of the hit international series, will embark on a nationwide search for the country’s favourite dancer this Spring. The five-city audition tour will visit Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal and Halifax – with one additional audition city to be announced. Complete audition information, including dates, locations and eligibility requirements, will be revealed soon.
CTV and production partner Danse TV Productions are currently casting for the host and judging panel for So You Think You Can Dance Canada. The series premieres this fall on CTV.
So You Think You Can Dance Canada is based on the Emmy Award-winning smash hit series created by Simon Fuller and Nigel Lythgoe that premiered in 2005. Canada joins the United States, Australia, Norway, Denmark, Greece, Poland, Turkey, Germany, Malaysia, New Zealand, South Africa and Israel as markets with an original So You Think You Can Dance production. The original So You Think You Can Dance is a Top 3 summer series in Canada on CTV with an average audience of 1.25 million viewers*.
“Whether they hone their craft at ballet school, in the clubs or on the streets, dancers share the same dream: to express their passion for dance on stage,” said Susanne Boyce, President, Creative, Content and Channels, CTV Inc. “So You Think You Can Dance Canada provides that stage for the broad spectrum of dance talent this country has to offer in a way never seen before.”
So You Think You Can Dance Canada will showcase dancers as they compete to impress an expert panel of judges during a cross-country audition process.
Selected competitors will be invited to call-backs where they will work with some of Canada’s top choreographers. The panel will then choose the Top 20 dancers to move on in the competition. Then, it’s up to Canada to decide who stays and who goes as the public votes for their favourites following weekly performance episodes in which the competitors are assigned different partners and dance styles to perform, from hip-hop, krump and pop-and-lock to salsa, quickstep, ballroom, and jive.

I KNOW Canada has a lot to offer in terms of dance talent. I’ve been teaching dance classes in Toronto and across the country for a while, and have seen the crazy talent out there with my own eyes. I think it’s about time! But I hope it’s produced well.
Let’s start a discussion… what do YOU think? Will we kick @ss? Will the Canadian version suck? Post your thoughts and comments below.

I’m over on the west coast and we have some seriously sick talent over here too so if people get off thier butts and audition we’ll totally rock it out. I hope we have good judges! I totally agree with everyone that the choreographers will make or break this show.
I can’t wait to audition! April 7th Vancouver BABY
BE THERE!!!!!!!!
Let’s hope it’s not gonna be like Canadian Idol! Anyone knows the title of the add theme song on CTV?
FINALLY! i cant wait till i’m old enough to try out for this. i was wondering when this show was gonna come out , to bad im only 14 i gotta wait 5 years
it all depends on the judging and the choreographers…..we’ve got some super talented dancers in this country, all we need is a chance to show off our skills to their fullest!
Hi!!!!
It is really exiting to heard about this opportunity for all the people have passion showing their talent and of course they can offer to others, I personal thing your show…. show a lot of talent I am a Big Fan!!!!. I am not from Vancouver I grow up in Mexico but I know you can fine big compromise people, in Vancouver…..
Good luck to all!!!!!!!!!!
its about time!!
I totally agree. They say the are looking for an all around dancer but, Ballet and tap are never represented in the choreography or in the judging panel. You could walk into the audition room and have an okay tap number with a big smile and beautiful arms and may get through but, a sick tap dancer, who is really hittin’ will get sent home because when it comes down to it they have no idea what its about. I know they are out there auditioning but there are few who make it far enough to truly represent.
I’m hoping Canada shows the United States up, because I think as a whole, we are more versatile and can handle ALL disciplines of dance, even the “harder ones” like Ballet and Tap.
Canadian, American, or any other nation….where’s the ballet? where’s the tap? they manage to get krumpin in there. I think the program is lacking in those disciplines and the only time the contestants get to show their stuff in those genres is in their solos which are what? 30 seconds long? lame. Don’t get me wrong…I love to watch the show and I hope Canada kicks ass, but I know I won’t be showing up because the two forms of dance I’m probably best at don’t count.
I can’t believe that it took so long and can’t wait for it to begin! I’m sure that Canadian dancers will blow everyone away. But I agree with Danielle: Good Choreographers = Good Show!
I think that Canada has some INCREDIBLE talent, better talent than ANYWHERE In the world 🙂 So much diversity and openmindedness. I think we are going to ROCK IT!! I think this is an amazing opportunity for anyone who loves to dance and wants to pursue a career in dance 🙂
I think that Canada has MUCH better talent than ANYWHERE In the world 🙂 So much diversity and openmindedness. I think we are going to ROCK IT!
I’m not sure whether it will suck or kick ass. We definitely have the talent here so I think as long as we have good choreographers it will be good. People watch the show because it’s entertaining, and no matter how good the dancer is if the choreography is not good the dancer will look boring to any non- dancer. So in my opinion Good Choreographers = Good Show!
I think it’s about time . . . FINALLY . . . it’s been a long time and comin’!!!
I told Farley Flex, Sass Jordan and Zack Werner re: same back in 2001 -even before it came out in the states . . . I thought their was talent beyond talent and much money to be had!!! 🙂
Cheers to all that and all the talented Canadian dancers / choreographers out there . . . see ya’ all in the fall!!!
Peace out,
Trouble Yee – choreographer – ♥ XXX
Shawn I think Canada will totally kick ass if the show has the right choreographers….judges. the talent is definitely here……sooooo you gonna be on the show?? choreographing? competing?? hmmmmm??

I can’t wait for it to come. I think it’s time that canadian talent be recognized. I can’t wait to see all my friends audition.
